Next Generation Science Standards: ELL Case Study

In this case study that accompanies Appendix D of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), a second-grade classroom vignette focused on an Earth Science lesson about soil demonstrates how ELLs can develop proficiency in language intensive scientific practices while engaging with rigorous science content. The vignette outlines the NGSS practices included throughout the lesson, as well as connections to the Common Core State Standards and the role of academic language throughout the lesson.
